Our Ninth Tradition states:
9. NA, as such, ought never be organized, but we may create service boards or committees directly responsible to those they serve.
The Northside Area subcommittees take on the various tasks of recovery related business that the groups would have to do if we didn’t have the subcommittees. These tasks include Area Activities, Public Information , Hospitals and Institutions at the present time. This frees the groups to concentrate on carrying the message of recovery to the newcomer and older members of Narcotics Anonymous. Therefore the NA groups come together to form a Area Service Committee (ASC) which forms the different subcommittees needed to insure that these tasks are done. The groups do have the final say in all matters affecting them as the subcommittees are directly responsible to the groups.
